Discussions on anything Egi , Squid Fishing
I just throw mine in a tub of iced salt water. They normally turn white within a few minutes. What's the scoop on the despatch? Is it for cruelty reasons or are they meant to be more tender when killed instantly?
Im not trying to be a smart ass, Mick, but it's hard to take the cruelty side of it seriously when everyone sticks hooks through them and feeds them to bigger fish! But I do love tender calamari so I'll give it a go.
this is going a bit OT but have you tried marinating your squid rings or strips in Kiwi FruitI do love tender calamari so I'll give it a go.
Just clean and prepair your squid rings and put them aside
take 1 or 2 kiwi friut that are just squashed up - I use a fork to break it up , then put the prepaired squid rings in a bowl with the kiwi fruit
make sure the squid is coated and put it in the fridge for an hour
after an hour in the fridge wash off the kiwi fruit and put the squid on a paper towel to take most of the water off
now just batter, crumb or salt and pepper flour them as normal
and cook them the same high heat for a short time
the acid in the kiwi fruit softens the squid so they come out more tender -
as I said its worth a try and how I prep my squid now before it gets the salt a pepper squid treatment
Choppers,Ozfish TV just showed two karate chops to a squid on the right places will do the job. Awesome show
was out on Western port yesterday and got a couple of squid, put them in the live well hoping to use them for
a nice winter red , but that didn't happen, so when I got back, of course they were still alive
and I tried the Karate chop method, very easy to do and it didn't take much force to kill them.
Certainly beats using the egi spike, and I agree about the show awesome to watch.
