Gday, not an expert but I would hazard a guess.......It sounds to me that when you got the anchor stuck, you have pulled the rope on the capstan into itself. I think if you pull off whatever depth you were anchored in you may find that the rope is folded back on itself.

This is only my thoughts and just trying to help.

Cheers......ThomasG

I install remote control kits to anchor winches for solo beach launching. on one occasion i watched as one of my customers launched with it for his first time, he reversed back, hit the skids (brakes), and the boat slid off, he then lowered his anchor (remote). what happened though was he let the drum turn too much and as the anchor hit the sand he didnt release the button and the rope then got raped around the drum and pulled the rope the wrong way. in his case the anchor just bounced up and down resulting in a short swim to catch his boat. he now watches as it lowers and releases some rope out bit by bit instead of holding the button down. :) :) :)

fish are where you find them
