Why do you wait so long to launch or retrieve your boat?

Postby mrfisho Fri Nov 22, 2013 4:36 pm

Not enough money from fees imposed on boaters is spent on boat ramps by the State Government even though the law says they must spend it on boat ramps!

How much did the government collect?
Last year the government collected more than $30 million dollars in fees directly from boaters. This is licence, registration and other fees you must pay under the law.

This includes $10 Million dollars a year boat owners must pay as the Boating Safety and Facilities Program fee stuck on the back of the boat registration fee. This is the same law (Marine Safety Act) that the government placed $700 fines on boaters with and it also requires the government must spend the full BS&FP fee collected on boat ramps. The government ignores that part!

How much did the Government spend on boat ramps last year?
The State Coalition Government spent $2.64 Million dollars last year under the Infrastructure category of the Boating Safety and Facilities Program.

That is why we wait at boat ramps!

The Minister for Ports doesn’t consider this an issue because he hasn’t heard from recreational boaters!

It’s time to let the State Government know that YOU think it is an issue!

Tell the Minister or Premier your name, where you live, where you wait to launch and that you are sick of waiting for the Government to fix this issue! Ask for the $10 Million back and to be spent on boat ramps!

I sent an email and did my part.

I even gave em a drawing to show em how to fix Altona, 4 lanes in and 4 lanes out.

Fire up the bulldozer!

I think Jarrah Jack is spot on !
With the Vic Libs needing every vote they can buy now is the time to put the pressure on.
Use the work Mick has done & prod a pollie.
The just may listen......But only if we all do our bit, they can ignore a few......But the won't ignore a few hundred or a few thousand !
Send your message now.

Fatjk,
Mick has provided us the email contacts to send our message out.
That's all, but it makes it easy for us to get our point of view across to the right people.
Roddy.

Okay some new information from the BIA we need to make some noise as it seems the Minister reckons all is good because they were told its not an issue as the Minister wasn’t seeing anything in the media or hearing about any problems from boaters….. Maybe we need to send them images of the crashes and the fights from Altona I am sure that should get some of the media looking into why .

If boaters don’t tell the Minister we can’t get an increase in funding…and therefore better ramps.

Cheers
Mick
